Collaboration with Spanish National Police and Europol Shuts Down World’s Largest Infringing IPTV App

MADRID, March 11, 2021 – Mobdro, the world’s largest infringing IPTV app, has ceased all operations after a major investigation and criminal referral by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) and the Premier League resulted in law enforcement action by the Spanish National Police and Europol.
Compatible with Smart TVs, smartphones, tablets and illicit streaming devices, Mobdro illegally made available a large catalogue of live TV, custom VOD channels and content from around the world. The app also included dedicated sports, gaming, music, podcasts and adult channels, as well as several custom VOD channels airing TV series and movies in a 24/7 format.
The investigative work undertaken by ACE and the Premier League served as the foundation for this case. The Spanish National Police Cybercrime Central Unit led the enforcement action and Europol coordinated the international links in this case.

LA INVESTIGACIÓN DE ACE Y LA PREMIER LEAGUE LLEVA A MOBDRO A CESAR TODAS SUS OPERACIONES
La colaboración con la Policía Nacional española y la Europol cierra la mayor aplicación de IPTV pirata del mundo
MADRID, March 11, 2021– Mobdro, la mayor aplicación de IPTV pirata del mundo, ha cesado todas sus operaciones después de que una importante investigación y una denuncia penal interpuesta por la Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) y la Premier League inglesa dieran lugar a una acción policial por parte de la Policía Nacional española y Europol.
Mobdro era compatible con muchas de las Smart TV, smartphones, tabletas y los dispositivos de streaming ilícitos, a través de los cuales ofrecía de forma ilegal un amplio catálogo de televisión en directo, canales de Video Bajo Demanda personalizados (VOD por sus siglas en inglés) y contenido de emisores y creadores de todo el mundo. El sistema también incluía canales dedicados a deportes, juegos, música, podcast y material adulto, así como varios VOD en los que se emitían series de televisión y películas de manera ininterrumpida.
El trabajo de investigación realizado por ACE y la Premier League inglesa sirvió como base para este caso. La Unidad Central de Ciberdelincuencia de la Policía Nacional española dirigió la acción coercitiva y Europol coordinó las ramificaciones internacionales del caso.
“El caso de Mobdro ofrece una vívida demostración del papel fundamental que ACE desempeña a la hora de proporcionar a las fuerzas del orden la información necesaria para que puedan actuar contra la piratería en Internet. La protección de nuestros derechos de autor es tremendamente importante para la Premier League y nuestros socios de retransmisión, así como para la salud del fútbol inglés en el futuro”.
