ACE APPLAUDS CRIMINAL CONVICTION OF MOVIE-BLOG OPERATORS

March 8, 2021

Germany – The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) congratulates German law enforcement and the German public prosecutor for achieving a criminal conviction of two operators of the pirate site, Movie-blog. Movie-blog was in the top 10 of the most-used unlawful pirate sites in Germany with over 65 million visits in the past year. The Movie-blog domains now officially redirect to the “Watch It Legally” page on the ACE website at www.alliance4creativity.com/where-to-watch/.

After substantial law enforcement action, the public prosecutor charged the two operators with massive copyright violations. ACE supported the criminal proceedings throughout the trial.

On February 25, the Aurich Court convicted the two operators to a delayed 22-month imprisonment sentence for commercial unlawful exploitation of copyrighted works. Both must also pay fines and all seized equipment will be destroyed.

“We applaud law enforcement’s efforts to have this case brought to court as well as the conviction achieved today by the public prosecutor,” said Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the MPA. “As ACE continues to fight piracy by working with a strong network of global allies, we are grateful to our partners in Germany for creating a solid deterrent effect in the market. The dedication of resources to fight IP infringement supports jobs in the audiovisual sector and bolsters the local creative economy as well.”
