THAI POLICE CLOSE DOWN ILLICIT IPTV SERVICE

June 8, 2022

The Economic Crimes Division (ECD) of the Thai Police, supported by ACE and True Visions, undertook a search warrant action at a residence in Samut Prakan (south of Bangkok) and arrested the operator of subscription application  http://pglivetv.com/. A number of devices and documents were seized at the residence and the  37 year old operator of the illicit application subsequently made full admissions to the Police. A second search warrant action took place at the premises of World Internetwork Corporation, a Bangkok-based hosting service provider, where a number of servers were seized in connection with pglivetv.com.

The pglivetv.com application had been in operation since 2021 and provided access to live channels (including live sports), movies and other video-on-demand content, which included ACE member content.

Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) said:

“We will continue to work closely with Thailand’s law enforcement agencies to identify and interdict the operators of such online piracy services and protect the livelihood of Thai and international creators and distributors. IPTV piracy is organised crime, pure and simple, with crime syndicates making substantial revenues from sales of illicit applications and the provision of illegally re-transmitted TV channels and entertainment content ”.
